Last year’s Grey Britain was one of the ballsiest major label releases ever, so it only makes sense that after one album, Gallows have been dropped by Warner Bros./Reprise.

The critical favorite showed the U.K. punk band upping the ante from their debut album, Orchestra of Wolves. It was more intense, had better production, their intense live shows made them a must-see, and the album found its way on to a lot of top ten lists for 2009. Unfortunately, buzz doesn’t mean record sales, and the album has sold under 9,000 copies since its May release.

While it’s disappointing that WB didn’t give them another chance, it’s understandable why they didn’t make the cut. What’s less understandable is why the label paid them a rumored 1 million Pound advance (that’s about $1.6 million). Regardless, we’re sure they’ll wind up on another label soon, albeit with less of an advance.
