Above, you can see Jason Newsted’s new video for “As the Crow Flies.” Speaking of flying though, it doesn’t look like the former Metallica bassist and his band will be making the trip to Australia for the Soundwave Festival dates. This is the latest volley in a back and forth with the Australian festival that began a few weeks ago after the festival announced that they’d been dropped from the festival by request of Megadeth. After a denial from Dave Mustaine, Newsted said that he’d be touring in Australia anyway, with Testament.
But the plot thickens. Newsted made a Facebook post, since deleted, that he would not be playing any shows in February and March, including the Soundwave dates. That’s news to festival promoter A J Maddah, who said in tweets that the band’s equipment had already arrived in Brisbane and he was trying to find Jason and figure out what was going on. If it turns out that Newsted have dropped off the bill, they’ll be the seventh act to have done so, joining Megadeth, Sevendust, Stone Temple Pilots, Whitechapel, Hardcore Superstar and Desaparecidos as bands that are no longer on the bill for the festival, which is set to take place this weekend.
