Surrender+Of+DivinityThai black metal band Surrender of Divinity might not be a household name in America, but they’re certainly in the news, and for all the worst reasons. According to the Bangkok Post, frontman Samong Traisattha was stabbed to death last Wednesday (8), in his house. His wife, Jarucan Surapol, said that he was murdered by Parkarn Harnphanbusakorn, a fan that had come by their house to get some shirts screen-printed. After Mrs. Jaruvan put the couple’s child to bed and checked on her husband, she found him dead in a pool of blood.

A Facebook user calling himself Maleficent Meditation, believed to be Parkarn, confessed to the murder, posting several NSFW pictures and going into graphic detail about how he stabbed Samong 30 times as he begged for his life. From the Post:

“I have intended to end my life since I was 25. Because I’ll die eventually, I want to drag down those who tarnish Satanism with me. But I refrained from killing women and children,” he wrote.

“In my view, I have more respect for devoted Buddhists, Christians and Muslims than those who call themselves Satanists without knowing anything about it,” he wrote. “If I did not kill him, I’m sure he would be murdered by someone else later.”

What’s really unfortunate about this is that his lengthy confession on Facebook has over 1,750 shares, and according to Death Metal Underground, prices on Surrender of Divinity music and merch on eBay has spiked since Samong was killed. So while his message is getting out there, it’s also making Surrender of Divinity more popular then ever, so Parkarn’s delusional reasons for senselessly killing Samong aren’t gaining him any more of a following. The killer is still at large, and should obviously be considered very dangerous. Killing anyone for religion, regardless of the religion, is terrible, and it’s heartbreaking that “not satanic enough” is a reason to end someone’s life.
