The metal community is still reeling from last week’s loss of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman. And the general New Jersey/New York area is still feeling repercussions from superstorm Sandy six months later. This Saturday (11) is the Old Bridge Metal Militia reunion and benefit for hurricane victims presented by Jon and Marsha Zazula in Freehold, NJ. The reunion will feature music from Twisted Sister, Anvil, Raven, The Rods, and Lords of Mercy, with a reunion set from TT Quick, and proceeds from the show will benefit victims of the hurricane. You can read about how this came about in this interview with Jon, but perhaps of just as much interest will be some of the auction items offered up.
There will be a BC Rich Warlock guitar signed by all of the bands, a guitar donated by Anthrax that the band will sign at a future gig, and a “JG12” John Gallagher 12 string bass and a “MGT” Mark Gallagher Tele Signature model from Raven. But the big ticket item is an ESP “TA-200” signature bass signed by Slayer – including one of the last known signatures of Jeff Hanneman. Talk about owning a piece of history. Other big ticket items include a guitar and drum head autographed by Metallica.
If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, they’re still available, and it’s for a good cause. And if you bid right, you could end up with a truly one of a kind part of metal history.
