Whenever a top 10 list is compiled, the same question pops up: “But what about (insert band/song/musician here)?” And this time is no different. Gibson recently conducted an survey of the best guitar riffs from the 1980’s. Today, they announced the top 10 riffs with the AC/DC classic “Back In Black” taking the number one spot.

Other artists to make the list include Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, and Rush, among other that are deserving of a spot on the list. But here, as I said, comes the same question: What about Metallica? Don’t get us wrong, the significance all of the riffs listed is well known. That we said, we could name more than a few other bands with legendary riffs that could have made the list: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, Motörhead, Van Halen…you get the idea. We’re not bitching, we’re just going through the motions of reacting to a top 10 list. And the awesomeness of most of these riffs cannot be disputed.

Gibson’s Top 10 Riffs of the 1980’s:

1. AC/DC – “Back In Black” (“Back In Black”)
2. The Rolling Stones – “Start Me Up” (“Tattoo You”)
3. Ozzy Osbourne – “Crazy Train” (“Blizzard Of Ozz”)
4. Scorpions – “Rock You Like A Hurricane” (“Love At First Sting”)
5. Def Leppard – “Photograph” (“Pyromania”)
6. Judas Priest- “Breaking The Law” (“British Steel”)
7. Michael Jackson – “Beat It”
8. The Clash – “Should I Stay or Should I Go” (“Combat Rock”)
9. Guns N’ Roses – “Sweet Child O’Mine” (“Appetite For Destruction”)
