vpIt used to be what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas. We wish that was the case, especially after hearing that a band including Vinnie Paul (Pantera, HELLYEAH) and Paul Shortino (Quiet Riot, Rough Cutt) has recorded a cover of “Send In the Clowns” as opening music for roided-out prop comic Carrot Top’s stage show.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Mr. Top heard the song (a Stephen Sondheim song, which has been recorded by Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, and most famously, Krusty the Klown) randomly while driving around and thought of a line in his routine when he refers to himself as an “evil clown.” He then called his friend Shortino and suggested that they record a metal version of the song. Since Rough Cutt isn’t doing a hell of a lot these days, Shortino enlisted Paul, guitarist Ira Black and his bassist Tyler Burgess to record the song. Apparently, the song starts out traditionally, then gets heavy.

Paul showed up for the session in an SUV full of clowns. He and his buddies were dressed in full clown outfits, and hilarity reigned. Carrot Top looks like a clown without an outfit on. Hear that sound? It’s the sound of Carrot Top gaining metal cred. Hear that even louder sound? It’s the sound of Paul losing Metal cred.
