When Manowar premiered a snippet of a new song called “El Gringo” back in March, the band teased that the song had something to do with a movie. Well today, it was confirmed that the power metal group’s “El Gringo” is actually the theme song for a new film of the same title.
Directed by Eduardo Rodriguez and starring Scott Adkins and Christian Slater, El Gringo will feature a song specifically written for the action film by Manowar. After Dark Action will premiere the film and four others theatrically as a commercial film festival in U.S. markets nationwide and via Video On Demand on May 11.
Manowar bassist Joey DeMaio had the following to say about the cinema collaboration:
“Everyone loves action movies! Our music, along with ass-kicking visuals and a great story, are a perfect match, not to mention a chance to actually see the music come alive on screen. El Gringo has been a great experience, the team at After Dark Films has been a pleasure to work with, and we are ready for more!”
Courtney Solomon, owner and CEO of After Dark Films, added the following:
“We are thrilled to have Manowar as a creative collaborator on El Gringo. The band really invested their talent and energy into the project and we can’t wait to share their work with action audiences everywhere.”
“El Gringo” will reportedly also appear on Manowar’s new album, which is expected to see a digital pre-release in June 2012. A snippet of the song can be heard in El Gringo’s new trailer after the jump.
