It’s no secret that it’s hard for any metal band to break big. The industry and life on the road has taken its toll on even established bands. So it makes one think, why the hell do musicians put themselves through all the hardships and pain? Well that’s exactly the question satellite engineer/ Car Bomb singer Michael Dafferner wanted an answer to.

In his new hour long documentary, aptly titled Why You Do This, Dafferner chronicles his band Car Bomb’s life on the road (starting with their first U.S. tour 2007) and how it’s not all that it’s made up to be. In addition to highlighting the costs that go into touring for an unknown band, and showcasing the disappoints that come from a “promising” opening slot, the film includes interviews with members of Lamb Of God, Gojira, Charred Walls Of The Damned, The Chariot, Last Chance To Reason, Goatwhore, and many others.

While you can purchase a physical copy of the documentary via it’s website, Why You Do This can be seen in its entirety online. It’s a hard wakeup call as to how metal bands (both established and unknown) sacrifice a lot in order to live out their dreams. Watch the documentary for yourself after the jump, while more information can be accessed via its website.
