Last night was Van Halen’s coming out party for their new album, A Different Kind of Truth. The band played a 13-song set at the 250-capacity Cafe Wha? in Manhattan’s East Village. They also announced the tour dates for an extensive tour that will see them on the road from February 18th through June. In addition, the band played a “new” song, “She’s the Woman,” which has actually existed in demo form since 1976 (and can be seen above). Perhaps the best/most surprising item announced was the opener for select dates, Kool and the Gang. The first single from A Different Kind of Truth, “Tattoo,” will be released on Tuesday (10), with the album following on February 7. It will be the band’s first album on Interscope, and the first with original vocalist David Lee Roth since 1984, which came out at the end of 1983. The band’s set list from last night is below, with tour dates after the (might as well) jump.
