Ukrainian metalcore outfit Space of Variations return with their new album, Poisoned Art, out now via Napalm Records (order here). Blending crushing heavy beats with raw emotional intensity, the band has delivered what is promised to be their most intense work to date. To give a deeper look inside the record, frontman Dmytro Kozhukhar has teamed up with Metal Insider for a track-by-track breakdown.

TRIBE

“TRIBE” was the first single we released and the first song where we decided to blend English and Ukrainian lyrics. This one is very special for us. It’s about the pain of war blended with personal drama.

HALO

What can I say about “HALO”? Time is running out. There’s no need to pretend — everyone is both saint and cursed. Every glow hides its dark side.

MAYDAY

Imagine a huge plane full of passengers falling down, with me and Alex as the pilots, lip-syncing while going down. The idea for this video is on hiatus for now, but the image of a falling plane is strongly embedded in the song.

PARALLEL REALITIES

This song was supposed to be the first single from the album instead of “TRIBE”. Some parts weren’t working at first, so we decided to release another song — and that became “TRIBE”. When we finally finished “PARALLEL REALITIES”, we realized it works perfectly as the last single of the album.

DOPPELGÄNGER

A very special song for us and one of our favorites in our entire discography. It received strong feedback on social media, so people really connected with it. It’s about two (or more) personalities inside you — good and bad, saint and cursed. The strange duality of the human mind.

GODLIKE

One of the heaviest tracks on the album. We used octave pedals on this record to make the guitars sound lower than our usual tone. The main riff will kill you.

GHOST TOWN

We filmed one of our most creative videos for this song. The vibe feels like waking up while still being deeply stuck in a dream — where you’ve lost someone important, and no matter what you do, you can’t find them.

COLDHEAVEN

I don’t know why, but I had this image of the fall of Babylon in my head when I first listened to the demo Alex sent — people waiting for their death and, in that moment, feeling completely free. This is their last night.

BACK TO DIRT

You know… what can I say about this song. We all feel like shit sometimes. And a lot of people will use you when you’re weak and wounded. Watch closely who the preacher really is.

SNAKE SKIN

This song is about something new. Shedding your old snake skin. A kind of rebirth and hope — but in the end, collapse, as always.

LIES

The softest song on the album and a rare case where we write about love. This one is special for personal reasons. We wanted to say something about love at that moment in our lives.

ECHO

Not just an outro, but the echo of the whole album. The same synth from “TRIBE”, our first single, appears here again — like a signal sent after everything is over. A symbol left in the void.
