Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. Edmonton Canada’s The Judge The Juror have just unleashed their latest EP, Primitive Minds, on November 7th. For fans of Between the Buried and Me, Born of Osiris, and Meshuggah, you should check it out. We caught up with David W Frontenac (vocals/synth/programming) as he’s not sure his dog is into music.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
I have a sweet little dachshund/corgi rescue named Luna, and she’s my follow-me-everywhere, snuggle-me-endlessly, little girl. I’ve had her for about 3 years now, and she’s my favorite part of coming home every day.

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
Not yet, yet is the keyword [laughs]. Once the band has a big enough tour vehicle I think I’m going to suggest it to the guys. She’s super tiny and chill, she’d be a great tour dog. Plus we’re all animal lovers in the band so I think it would be great for all of us.

Who looks after your pet while on the road?
My amazing partner Megan always takes the best care of Luna when I have to go on the road for shows. Plus Luna is absolutely in love with Megan, so I’m not even totally sure she notices I’m gone half the time. She also has two cats, Hank and Peggy (somehow NOT named after King of the Hill, how do you figure that??), and Luna loves to play with them, so everyone wins.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
You know, I don’t think I’ve seen her react to any songs differently than any others [laughs]. I don’t know if she’s a “musical” dog, as in she doesn’t seem to notice music at all, although I think if I took her to one of our shows she’d have a reaction [laughs]. I’m going to have to invest in those doggy ear-muffs for her.
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
Oh, her Dad’s got metal in his blood so she’s been forced into the life without a doubt. Since she’s so attached to me, I’m just assuming she is into metal and the style cause I look like it [laughs].
What animal charity means most to you?
There’s a local animal charity here in Edmonton, AB, Canada called SCARS that does a ton of amazing work around our cities. They’re a super well known and reputable animal rescue in the area and their services are sorely needed, and I know the people here are grateful for what they do cause I sure am. Edmonton, and Canada, is full of animal lovers!
