A newly released crash report has concluded that former Mastodon guitarist and co-founder Brent Hinds was at fault in the motorcycle accident that claimed his life on August 20, 2025. According to Atlantanewsfirst, Atlanta police determined the 51-year-old musician was traveling between 63 and 68 mph, nearly twice the posted speed limit, when his Harley Davidson collided with a BMW SUV making a left turn at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Boulevard.

Investigators cited traffic camera footage and witness statements describing Hinds as “driving fast.” While early reports suggested the SUV driver had failed to yield, the final police statement placed responsibility on Hinds due to excessive speed. He was found injured at the scene and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

On Sunday (31st), hundreds of family, fans, and friends gathered in Atlanta for the “March of Hinds,” a parade celebrating his life and music.
