Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
This week’s top metal debut comes from Florida’s very own Trivium, who have reason to celebrate. Their fifth studio album In Waves sells just under 21,000 copies, cracking the top 20. While it may come slightly short of what their previous two albums sold (2008’s Shogun sold near 24,000 copies, while 2006’s The Crusade sold 31,000 copies), In Waves is Trivium’s highest ranking debut to date. Plus, for any band to sell over half of what they sold five years ago nowadays is fantastic (a sad truth). So a major congratulations are in store for Trivium.

Trivium’s Corey Beaulieu told us that this album was a “rebirth” for the band. Looks like the revamp paid off.
Adrenaline Mob, Adrenaline Mob (EP) (Self-Released) 1,750 sold
On the one hand this is somewhat a low number considering how fanatic fans are for Mike Portnoy and his former band. At the same time, though, this is relatively impressive considering that physical copies are only available on their website or at their shows (in addition to digital outlets), and that it was self-released with less than a week’s notice. We’re sure that their opening stint for Godsmack will continue to help sales out.
Fleshgod Apocalypse, Agony (Nuclear Blast) 1,430 sold
The Italian technical death metal group’s first album via Nuclear Blast has a strong first week. Playing on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour surely helped sales.
Eyes Set to Kill, White Lotus (Forsee/Maphia) 1,220 sold
A solid first week for the group’s first album via their own imprint Forsee Records.

Theory Of A Deadman, Truth Is (Roadrunner) #57, 6,990 sold
A 23% decrease for this radio friendly rock group isn’t enough to kick them out of the top 60.
Incubus, If Not Now, When? (Epic) #58, 6,960 sold
10 spots down the charts thanks to a 19% decrease.
Foo Fighters, Wasting Light (RCA) #64, 6,190 sold
Their appearance at Lollapalooza may not have boosted sales by much, but it probably helped keep Dave Grohl and co. in the top 70 in their 18th week on the charts.
Seether, Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray (Wind-Up) #90, 4,560 sold
Only three spots down the charts from last week despite a 12% decrease.
Kid Rock, Born Free (Atlantic) #101, 4,100 sold
This might be the first time Mr. Rock’s latest album ranked outside the top 100 in its entire 39 week run.
Hollywood Undead, American Tragedy (A&M/Octone) #118, 3,710 sold
After a jump in sales last week, the maskcore group fall out of the top 100 with a 21% decrease.
Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare (Warner Bros.) #136, 3,380 sold

Sixx:A.M., This is Gonna Hurt (Eleven Seven) #170, 2,580 sold
Somehow, after being absent from the charts for about eight weeks, Nikki Sixx’s side project returns to the top 200 with a 93% increase. How the hell did that happen?!
Black Veil Brides, Set the World on Fire (Universal Republic) #169, 2,900 sold
Only two spots down from last week despite an 11% decrease.
Suicide Silence, The Black Crown (Century Media) #184, 2,440 sold
An 18% decrease for the deathcore group in their fifth week on the charts, falling 22 spots down the charts.
All Shall Perish, This is Where it Ends (Nuclear Blast) #186, 2,400 sold
Another 16 spots down the charts for All Shall Perish in their third week on the charts. Though it looks like they had a good time on the Mayhem Fest.
Volbeat, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (Universal) 1,400 sold
A slight 7% decrease for the Danish garage metallers in their 39th week on the charts.
Jamey Jasta, Jasta (eOne) 970 sold
Another 37% decrease for the Hatebreed/Kingdom Of Sorrow frontman’s debut solo album in its third week.
Bury Your Dead, Mosh ‘N’ Roll (Mediaskare) 920 sold
Thanks to a massive 75% decrease, the metalcore group get kicked out of the top 200 in their second week.
Dir En Grey, Dum Spiro Spero (The End) 810 sold
Last week’s top metal debut also gets kicked out of the top 200 with a massive 79% decrease. Guess every Japanese metal die hard in the States bought their copy in the first week.
Nekromantix, What Happens in Hell, Stays in Hell (Hellcat) 700 sold
Following the other debuts from last week, the Danish psychobilly group experiences a 60% decrease.
Sleeping Giant, Kingdom Days in an Evil Age (Ain’t No Grave) 470 sold
A 31% decrease for the metalcore group in their fifth week.
Rival Sons, Pressure & Time (Earache) 460 sold
Looks like these guys got on Lopez Tonight just in time.
Toxic Holocaust, Conjure and Command (Relapse) 460 sold
A modest 6% increase is still good news for the blackened thrash metal group.
Vanna, And They Came Baring Bones (Artery) 440 sold
After a seven week absence from the charts, the post hardcore group crawls back out of nowhere.
Red Fang, Murder the Mountains (Relapse) 430 sold
An 8% decrease for the stoner rockers just as Mayhem Fest comes to an end.
