French metal outfit TSS have carved a unique path within the realms of modern metal, blending a range of genres including, emo, metalcore, and synthwave. Formerly known as The Sunday Sadness, the band, led by Kirby with John on guitar/vocals and Hugo on drums, has been evolving since 2016. Now signed to Fearless Records, TSS have created their most ambitious album to date, End Of Time, which arrived on June 27. To further breakdown the record, TSS have teamed up with Metal Insider to share an exclusive track-by-track guide.
END OF TIME
This intro was composed with the aim of setting the atmosphere of the album, which is intended to be cinematic and enigmatic. The song was imagined as a takeoff, with references such as Interstellar in mind.
Notes In The Dark
This song lies at the crossroads between modern metal and J-rock. It tells the story of an artist’s torment as he strives to write the song that will change his life.
Would you be my therapy?
The song is a tribute to early 2000s nu metal. It tells the story of a man who loses his mind and commits a crime of passion by murdering his beloved. “Would you be my therapy?” are the words he wished he could have said to his beloved before his madness took over.
Something In The Way
It’s a blend of drum and bass, hyperpop, and metalcore. It was designed to be effective in a live performance context.
KILLING ME
Killing Me was conceived as a modern emo anthem. It speaks about visions of a lost loved one. It’s the main single and the one we used to announce our signing with Fearless Records, so it holds a very special place in our hearts and in the band’s history.
In The Haze We Hide
This song has a unique atmosphere within the album, somewhere between emo and pop punk. We enjoy exploring different styles, and In the Haze We Hide is the result of one of those experiments.
Particles
Particules is like a memory we grafted onto the album. It was composed a long time ago and served as our live outro for quite a while. We finally decided to include it in the album, hoping it would bring back memories for those who heard it during our live shows.
DEAD! (feat. CVLTE)
This is TSS’s first feature. CVLTE is a band we’ve admired for years, and we had been wanting to collaborate for a long time. DEAD was written with that purpose in mind. It’s a dark track that blends urban elements, cloud rap, and metalcore. All of it wrapped in a futuristic blend.
Breaking Bones
This track tells the story of someone who once had it all—and couldn’t stop bragging about it—only to fall from grace in the most predictable way. It’s a mix of ironic satisfaction and quiet observation as we watch their world unravel. The song captures that moment when ego meets reality.
Fantasize
Fantasize is a checkpoint in our story. It blends everything the band had explored before that track and served as the foundation for everything that followed. It was imagined as an anime opening, but with elements of synthwave, metal, and rap/trap woven in.
Ending Scene
Ending Scene is an attempt to create the most violent emo song possible. With raw violent breakdowns and blast beats forth the verses, and a mix of heavy riffs and angelic clean vocals that suddenly turn into savage screams for the chorus, Ending Scene depicts the point of view of someone that’s considering suicide after ending a tragic love story.
So Long My Friend
This was the first song written for the album—four years ago. It went through several rewrites before becoming what it is today. It’s probably the calmest and saddest track in our catalog, and we wanted to leave a distinct feeling in the listeners’ minds as they reach the end of the album—like the bittersweet ending of a movie.
Would you be my therapy? (feat. Windwaker) – Redux
Windwaker invited us to be part of the reissue of their single Sirens, which we’re big fans of, so we invited them in return to collaborate on our most successful single from the album, Would You Be My Therapy?. We’re very proud of what this collaboration has become.
