The worlds of metal/hard rock and comic books have collided before. And now Tom Morello is getting in on the comic action.

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist has teamed up with artist Scott Hepburn to create the comic series called Orchid.  The futuristic epic follows a 16 year old street prostitute who discovers that she has a greater calling than what has been imposed on her. The story is set in a nightmarish world full of a ferocious new animal species that prey on humans while the rich harvest the bodies of the poor. The first issue of Orchid will be released on October 12 via Dark Horse Comics.

Morello was on hand at this year’s Comic Con Convention in San Diego last night to unveil his new endeavor at Dark Horse’s booth. According to Bleeding Cool, Morello had the following to say about his comic series:

“The epic arc of some of my favorite stories, whether it’s The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars or Dune or The Stand, it was infused with class consciousness. I wanted to make a book that was as exciting and as intelligent as some of the music that I’ve been involved in.”

To top it all off, Morello will actually record a soundtrack for each issue of Orchid. The songs will be given with each issue as an exclusive bonus. This is a pretty cool way to combine music with a different media outlet. Plus, we’re sure that Orchid will be more compelling than this.
