Via Oslo’s celebrated Indie Recordings, Norway’s legendary Seigmen released a fantastic new single, “(Dyret) 23 Bud,” or “(The Beast) 23 Commandments,” on August 9. This ode to resilience will be performed by Seigmen live at Midgardsblot for the first time on August 16. This gem bears strong similarities to Seigmen’s most recent album, Resonans — a true 5/5 masterpiece that dropped this May. Due to obstacles that beset the band, fans were forced to wait a long 9 years for Resonans, the follow-up to Enola.

Now, it has been revealed that Resonans represents the premier installment in an ongoing trilogy. “(Dyret) 23 Bud” hails from the trilogy’s second part, Dissonans, which will be unveiled on October 23, 2025 — exactly 30 years after the release of the Spellemann / Norwegian Grammy-winning Metropolis, which was preceded by the classic Total, recognized as one of Norway’s greatest albums of all time. Not only is Total celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, but a book on the topic by Even Smith Wergeland was published in 2023. Indie furthermore announced that the final part of Seigmen’s current trilogy already bears the title Substans and should become available in 2026. The band is presently working on the record.

Whereas Seigmen’s future seemed uncertain in the not-so-distant past, it has been more than confirmed that they couldn’t be in a better place, back with might, ingenuity, and their ever-refreshing indefinable brand of magic. Fortunately, each piece of the trilogy is said to be very different. Thus, we eagerly await the surprises in store.

More regarding the single itself: This display of uncompromising is named after Seigmen’s logo, “Dyret,” which first gloriously appeared on Seigmen’s 1992 offering, Pluto. Indie Recordings explains:

“The song’s lyrics consist of twenty-three ‘rules’ from Seigmen of 2024, projected back through time towards the young band that just released their deep and enchanting maroon debut album Pluto in 1992. And to everybody else who needs to hear that you must have faith in yourself, you must believe to make your dreams come true.”

The intro to “Dyret (23 Bud)” features a homemade tagleharpe by Espen Winther, who shared the stage with Seigmen at their very first concert as a member of another outfit called Floodland. Like Seigmen, Winther will be at Midgardsblot this year with his group Eldrim. “Dyret (Bud 23)” was recorded at Velvet Recording by Christer Krogh, mixed by Mike Hartung, mastered by George Tanderø, and produced by Seigmen. On this composition and as always, Seigmen is its perfect core five, a group of friends bound by absolute loyalty, chemistry, and artistic understanding: Alex Møklebust, Kim Ljung, Sverre Økshoff, Noralf Ronthi, and Marius Roth.
