We’re saddened to hear about the passing of Jerry Abbott, the father of Pantera’s founding members Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell. Jerry passed away at 80 in a Denton, Texas facility, just days before his 81st birthday. Jerry Abbott was a professional musician and recording engineer, who also managed and produced Pantera from their formation in 1981 until they signed a major-label deal in late 1989.

Jerry’s passing was confirmed yesterday (3rd) by his close friend, Danny Wood Sr., who shared the following on social media:

“I’m very sad to tell everyone of the passing of a close friend Jerry Abbott. He died last night in a Denton care giving facility. His Family is having a private Funeral for Family and close Friends with a Memorial Service being planned. Details soon.”
