Brodequin, the death metal duo comprising Jamie and Mike Bailey, is making a comeback after a 20-year hiatus with their fourth album, Harbinger of Woe. Known for their brutal and technical style, the band’s forthcoming release is set to hit the shelves on March 22, 2024.
To show what’s to come, the group has shared a video for their new single “Of Pillars and Trees.” The track maintains Brodequin’s classic sound, featuring Mike’s intense guitar riffs, and introduces new drummer Brennan Shackelford. The song is rooted in historical practices of torture and execution involving trees, adding a new dimension to the band’s catalog.
The album promises to explore new territory with innovative elements like synth patterns integrated into the music. Brodequin’s lyrics, penned by Jamie, draw inspiration from real historical events, staying true to the core thematic pillars of death metal—dismemberment, torture, abuse, and murder.
Brothers Jamie and Mike Bailey, with a history in brutal death metal since 1998, have faced personal challenges leading to the band’s hiatus. However, with a new drummer and a new label, Season of Mist, Brodequin is back to bring a fresh layer of brutality to death metal.
As described by Jamie, the album is a journey into a lost period of history where brutality and beauty coexist. Harbinger of Woe promises to deliver the signature Brodequin experience—a blend of terrifying beauty within the carnage of their brutal sound.
