We’re counting down to the 2024 edition of 70000 tons of Metal! This is by far one of our personal favorite metal cruises where every artist is a headliner. Metalheads from around the globe share an insane experience of four days with very little to no sleep of nonstop metal shows. From big pool deck experiences to the intimate Star Lounge, there’s something for all metalheads regardless of subgenre, and we love it all. 2023 marked a significant return for the cruise after all cruises generally faced a halt due to the pandemic. The event’s future was uncertain, but it returned, giving sixty unique artists a go. This year we saw a number of acts having their first experience on the boat to artists having some notable silver-to-gold member status returns. We managed to capture all sixty bands, and as we countdown to the 2024 edition, we will share artist spotlights from the 2023 expedition leading up to the 2024 voyage. Artist Number 7: Bodyfarm.
Prepared for a silver status, death metallers Bodyfarm embarked on the journey for the 2023 edition of 70000tons of Metal, marking their second time on the cruise, the first being in 2019. Back then, the Dutch death metal outfit brought 2019’s Dreadlord to the seas, but this year, they introduced a brand new chapter with their latest offering, Ultimate Abomination. Although the album wasn’t officially released just yet, shortly after the four-day cruise of complete debauchery, it was released in late February of this year.
Known for their authentic blend, providing that raw death metal sound, the group took no prisoners when we were fortunate to catch their intimate set on the final day of the cruise, February 2nd, 2023, at the Star Lounge Theater at 7:45 PM. We made it just in time to witness new songs such as “Torment” and “The Swamp” live, while treating fans to their classics, like “Charlatan Messiah” from 2012’s Malevolence. It was a cutthroat, heavy performance, and given the small stage, it just made it more intimate, nearly closing the Star Lounge for the year.
It’s proven that Bodyfarm are undoubtedly worth seeing live; they’ve made several European festival appearances this year and have a few shows scheduled for later this month. If you have the chance, go see them live and check out their new album, Ultimate Abomination, if you haven’t yet.

70000 tons of Metal will return on January 29th, setting sail from Miami, FL to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and back on February 2nd with another batch promising sixty bands to perform twice throughout the waves of adventure. The announcements have been moving fast this year as tickets have already gone on sale, and, well no updates since our last post but, in case you missed it, 37 bands out of 60 have been revealed thus far:
