Before their appearance at the heavily-emo Bamboozle festival in East Rutherford NJ last night, Motley Crue held a press conference to speak about their upcoming Summer tour with Poison and the New York Dolls. Correspondent Melissa Myers was on hand for the press conference and show and filed this report.

Motley Crue announced Sunday during the Bamboozle festival that they would embark on a summer long tour with support from Poison and The New York Dolls.  The band said that this whole tour would be dictated by fans. The fans voted as to who they went on tour with, what the set list was going to be, all the way down to the house music that would be playing before the concert.

“We want to get closer to our fans,”  vocalist Vince Neil said.  “We want to bring them closer to us.”   He also expressed that he was incredibly excited to be singing “Smokin’ In The Boys Room” again.  Aside from the set list that they provided (spoiler alert: See below),  there was really nothing amazingly new to announce. Tommy Lee has decided to bring back his infamous 360 drum set, and will be taking a ride over the crowd’s head once again. He also mentioned that he hopes to get one lucky fan in the driver’s seat.

Production manager Robert Lon explained that the set design for this tour will be a mix of red velvets, walls of amps, and huge screens. “It’s going to have a rock and roll, brothel feel to it.”

The show itself was less impressive than anticipated. Aside from poor sound and continuous technical problems, the band was clearly still rusty from coming out of hiatus.  After his guitar failed on him the first time, Vince embarrassly  admitted, “well, THIS sucks…” Shortly after Vince’s  guitar rig failed, Tommy was talking to the crowd and said he was “hearing voices.” To the casual observer, at first it might have appeared that it was time for Lee to head back to rehab again. Then in true Spinal Tap fashion, the PA system started picking up outside radio signals. HELLO CLEVELAND!

At the end of the day, it’s not that big of a surprise that the Crue’s set at the Bamboozle might have been a little lackluster. Even though they were headliners on Sunday, they were one of hundreds of bands playing at the weekend-long festival. It wasn’t like it was their production, even if they might have had their own set design and stage crew. While the kinks will likely be worked out this Summer, the Crue might have missed out on the opportunity to win over the youngest crowd they’ll ever play in front of for the rest of their career.
