Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Hexenklad vocalist Timothy Johnston as he’s been spending this time outdoors.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

When not working, making music (new Hexenklad album out now via CDN Records), or working on our new video “Heathenheart,”  I’ve spent as much time as possible outdoors in the wilderness trying to reconnect with myself and the non-digital world. That’s kept me sane.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I never stop listening to music. I have a large collection of both black and folk metal and I’ve been listening to that pretty much non-stop. There is a folk metal playlist on Hexenklad’s official YouTube page that people can check out to hear many of the best folk metal bands.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking, including making their own bread. What food have you been prepping during this time?

I can’t say I’ve been eating very healthy since this pandemic. A lot of pre-made food… that keeps me going.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

For movies, anything Fantasy or Sci-Fi I’ll give a watch to. I’ve been rewatching the LOTR movies recently. Those are always inspiring. For TV shows, there is a really good series called “Ragnarok” on Netflix. Also, the series “Vikings”, of course. For books, I have been re-reading the Kingkiller series by Patrick Rothfuss recently, and that is an amazing read. Very adult writer. A lot of darkness in him.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

There are a thousand paths to wisdom and I will not tell you which is which but I will say, keep growing yourselves, keep learning. Stay motivated to improve yourselves so when you can return to the world you return better and not broken. Make music, make art, create something to express yourself. Find a path for yourself and walk it. And this is what I say to all our fans, past, present and future; may you see every day as an opportunity, and may your actions become a symbol for all future generations. I raise a horn to you. Hail!
