UK rockers Octopus Montage are gearing up for their debut full-length effort, How To Live & How To Lose, out tomorrow (2nd). Formed by brother and sister Dec and Davina Naylor in 2017, the group established their pop-punk mixed with metalcore style and their lineup by releasing two EP’s in 2019: Reborn (…Again) and Catharsis. Those who enjoy bands A Day To Remember and Four Year Strong will want to check out Octopus Montage. Today (1st), the band has teamed up with Metal Insider for an early album stream.
Alex Jennings comments:
“‘How To Live & How To Lose’ is our first major project together since our lineup change in 2019. The record has pushed us into places we didn’t know we could go, with our heavier sound migrating to extremely brutal places & our softer songs being way more melodic than anything we have ever released before. Personally, this album hits on a lot of personal experiences & each song takes me on a different journey of which I think will translate to the audience, whether it’s a similar journey or a completely separate one.”

We asked the band to list five things they learned about recording an album during a pandemic. Check out their answers below:
01) Working alone isn’t (necessarily) a bad thing – We obviously couldn’t meet up to finish the last bits of recording in our record, however that could have potentially been a good thing. This meant that we had to record from home & this allowed us to experiment with some things that we may not have done in front of the others.
02) Free time = Lessons – I myself managed to learn all about the Spotify algorithm of which has helped us gain a lot more streams through editorials & working with the algorithm!
03) I actually appreciate being on the road – Sometimes being on the road was a bit of a drag, t being able to feel parts of your body because you’ve been sat down for so long, etc – Nah, I’d do anything for that now!
04) We used to eat a lot of fast food! – In the lockdowns I stopped eating anything from outside my house & it made me realise how much shit we used to eat! Instead of cooking at rehearsals or whilst hanging out, which was often 3/4 times a week, we’d just eat rubbish… Yeah…
05) Writing might be easier when in a dark place? – Like many people I fell into a bit of a hole during the pandemic but I feel like it might have helped me with writing, who knows I guess!
