Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Vis Mystica’s Connor McCray (guitar/bass/orchestration) as he’s been spending this time trying to stay productive.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
I’ve been writing a lot of music, for sure! Other than that I’ve been teaching my guitar students via Skype at home and just trying to stay as productive as I can.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
Absolutely! Every human being on planet Earth needs to check out the new Operus album Score of Nightmares. They are very good friends of mine and have released, in my opinion, the album of 2020.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?
Oh, mostly very basic things like steak! I’m a very simple eater; I’ll cut up some potatoes, grill a steak, grab a beer, and you’ve got a happy Connor.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
I read the Dragonlance Chronicles in their entirety and they were wonderful! Other than that I’ve been playing various games like Skyrim, Kingdom Hearts, FIFA, and tons of Star Wars games. In terms of TV and film, I’ve really gotten into His Dark Materials on HBO Max in addition to watching The Mandalorian some more, also The Boys!
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
Wear a mask when you go to the store! Other than that I’d say just find a new hobby to keep you occupied; this is a really tough time for all of us and mental health is paramount. Find something that makes you happy and go with it!
