Following the first round of their drum-off, Foo Fighters frontman/Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has come back with a brand new song written especially for 10-year-old rock prodigy Nandi Bushell.
In a video posted to the Foo Fighters Twitter account with the caption “every superhero needs a theme song,” Grohl conceded defeat, then prefaced and performed a very Ramones-esque ode to Bushell.
“Okay Nandi, you got me. You win round one. But I got something special for you. Something you’ve never heard before. Something I’ve never heard before, because I’m about to write this off the top of my head for you.”
Bushell challenged Grohl to a drum-off back in August in a YouTube video that featured her performing the Foo Fighters classic “Everlong.” Grohl responded, posting a video to Facebook of him playing “Everlong,” then challenging her to play Them Crooked Vultures’ “Dead End Friends” (which he drums on). Bushell reacted, then responded four days later with a side-by-side of her and Grohl playing the song. Grohl noted his defeat on Twitter, then hinted that he had something else up his sleeve.
In recent years, and especially in the last few months, Bushell’s playing has caught the attention of both the world and several of the musicians she has covered on her YouTube channel. Back in June, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello was so impressed by her “Guerilla Radio” cover that he gifted her a guitar. Just last month, Bushell covered Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” to the approval of guitarist Kirk Hammett. Her covers have also provided her with the opportunity to play alongside the likes of Travis Barker, Lenny Kravitz and Dua Lipa.
Ok @Nandi_Bushell….Round 2! Every superhero needs a theme song. Here’s one for you! Mad props to The Grohlettes for the background vocals. pic.twitter.com/js9xBasbpw
