The number of coronavirus cases linked to the recent Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota is growing. Last week, there were multiple cases in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska tied to COVID-19, there are now over 100 new cases in eight states connected to the rally. According to the Associated Press via CBS News, 103 cases have been reported in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Washington linked to the annual event. The United States has recently exceeded 6 million COVID-19 cases and nearing 185,000 deaths.
Over 460,000 vehicles were accounted for at the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota from August 7th through the 16th. Live performances by Smash Mouth, Buckcherry, Trapt, Fozzy, Drowning Pool, Quiet Riot, Adelitas Way, Saving Abel, and Night Ranger also took place during the event. While some safety measures were set, it didn’t look like many followed precautionary guidelines including, social distancing and wearing masks.
Due to the controversy behind this event that went on as planned in the middle of a pandemic, Vulture reports, Smash Mouth has recently received hate mail from moving forward with their set.
