So, we found out today that A Perfect Circle have an album coming out on 4/20, brah. That’s in keeping with what the band have said, and we’ve already heard three songs from the album. Of course, that leaves Maynard James Keenan’s other band, Tool, as the topic of much discussion. Nergal and Tom Morello have heard it. Three fourths of the band are confident it’ll be out this year. But the band’s first album since 2006 has no official confirmation from Keenan, nor does anyone seem in a hurry to announce it with APC’s Eat the Elephant coming. In an interview, visual effects artist Dominic Hailstone was interviewed by Yutani.blog, and he that other than working on Alien: Covenant, his work on a Tool video was his favorite project to work on:

A video for Tool that should be coming out later this year. Adam Jones gave me complete artistic freedom so the only constraint was the budget, we had a lot of fun figuring that out. Other than that Alien Covenant as I was working with friends I hadn’t seen in over 15 years. That was special.

Granted, Hailstone doesn’t really go into much detail. It could be a video for an existing song. If you’ll remember, the video for “Parabola” didn’t come out until one year Lateralus was released, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to imagine them putting out something to remind fans that they’re still a band . And for all we know, maybe it could be for a new element of their live show. Ultimately, this raises more questions than it answers, which is probably exactly what Tool has done for the majority of their career.
