Scott Putesky, more commonly known as founding Marilyn Manson guitarist Daisy Berkowitz, has died at the age of 49. He’d been diagnosed four years ago with stage four colon cancer, and lost his battle with the disease last night. Putesky and Manson met in 1989 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, forming Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. He played on the band’s debut album, Portrait of an American Family and the follow-up EP, Smells Like Children, which featured their breakthrough hit, a cover of Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams.” Berkowitz left the band in 1996over creative differences during the recording of Antichrist Superstar, but received writing credit for six songs on the album.
Following his departure from Manson, Putesky formed the solo project SMP, then joined Jack Off Jill, performing with them for one album. Manson paid tribute to his former guitarist on Instagram, while Jack Off Jill confirmed his passing with a Facebook post.
