Foo Fighters ninth studio album Concrete and Gold arrives next Friday (15th) and drummer Taylor Hawkins calls it the band’s “most psychedelic record, and our weirdest.” Frontman Dave Grohl spent the last few months announcing a few surprise guests on the album, including Sir Paul McCartney, Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman, and more. In an extensive Rolling Stone interview, Grohl revealed the mystery pop star on the upcoming record will be Justin Timberlake.
Grohl reflected on the time when Timberlake walked into the studio while they were recording and wanted to hear what the band were up to. He enjoyed what he was hearing and a bond formed, instantly.
Grohl explained:
“We’d drink whiskey in the parking lot. He was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, ‘Can I sing on your record? I don’t want to push it, but – I just want to be able to tell my friends.’ So the band had him add some ‘la la la’s’ to one track. He nailed it. I’m telling you – the guy’s going somewhere.”
The in-depth article also discusses the band and Grohl’s personal life including his children and his mother’s first published book, From Cradle to Stage. You can read the full story here.
