Glenn Danzig is having a moment right now. After successfully reuniting with Misfits last year, he’s also just successfully wrapped up his first festival this past weekend, Blackest of the Black, which coincided with the release of his just-released 11th album, Black Laden Crown. The L.A. Times caught up with the singer on the eve of his festival to chat about it, and while it’d be a stretch to say that Danzig’s albums are political, the interviewer asked him a few questions about his stance on some current events.
While Danzig calls himself a moderate, he’s pretty much about as fair and balanced as Fox News, a network it certainly seems like he watches. Here’s what he said when asked about Trump’s travel ban on Islamic countries, which keeps being proven unconstitutional:
“It’s really not a travel ban,” he said. “When you walk into the country, we want to see who you are and what you’re doing. Well, when I go to every country right now, they look at me and they see whether I can come in or not,” he continued. “And I’ve been turned away from Canada and other places before.
“Where’s my protest? Where’s my parade?”
It’d be interesting to see what Danzig was turned away from Canada for, but that’s beside the point. He’s certainly entitled to his opinion, but Trump’s travel ban wouldn’t really help anyone, especially since it omits some countries where radical Islamic terrorists have come from while banning others. His opinion toward Planned Parenthood is a little more bizarre, however.
“I might be conservative on some issues, and some issues I’m really liberal,” he said last week at a rehearsal studio in Hollywood, where he’d gathered his bandmates to prepare for Blackest of the Black. “I’m pro-abortion and I’m pro- Planned Parenthood. But I don’t think Planned Parenthood should be selling baby parts like a chop shop in Brooklyn, OK?”
Granted, a heavily edited video suggested that Planned Parenthood suggested abortions instead of providing prenatal care, and profited off selling body parts of aborted children for profit. A rudimentary google search would prove that PP isn’t profiting off the sale of aborted baby parts, and would, in fact, lose money if someone were to buy any tissue from an aborted fetus. But hey, if Danzig wants to maybe write a song about selling baby parts like a chop shop in Brooklyn, then maybe he should go ahead. And congrats on being pro-abortion and (kind of) standing with Planned Parenthood, Glenn!
