It’s been three years since Dragonforce released Maximum Overload (2014). During that time, the band released a greatest hits album titled Killer Elite, booked numerous tours that included their performance at the intimate Saint Vitus bar in Brooklyn, NY last September. After over two years promoting the album and Killer Elite, the time has arrived with the announcement of their forthcoming studio album Reaching Into Infinity out May 19 via Metal Blade Records. It would be the third album to include vocalist Marc Hudson and the first with drummer Gee Anzalone.

Reaching Into Infinity was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden with producer Jens Bogren. While they were on the Killer Elite tour, they managed to lay down a few tracks at Lamerluser Studios (London, UK), Dark Lane Studios (Witney, UK), and the band’s own Evil1 Studios in Charleville-Mezieres, France and Shredforce One Studios in California.

The noise never stops for Dragonforce as bassist Frédéric Leclercq commented:

“We were flying out, playing a festival then back into the studio, then back out again. It was very intense and very tiring. I obviously play bass but also a lot of rhythm guitar, electric and acoustic, and lost my temper a few times. I think we all did at some point because we wanted to deliver nothing but the best.”

Leclercq handled most of the songwriting on this album, which we have recently seen his diversity from his recent side project Sinsaenum. Leclercq showcased his multi-instrumental skills playing the guitar, bass, synth, and vocals on Sinsaenum’s debut album Echoes of the Tortured, which can only show his creativity is unstoppable.

With such diversified exploration, Dragonforce’s seventh album is guaranteed to have more fury to the storm along with their traditional fun and enjoyable style.

Leclercq continued:

“I think we have proven that playing fast was something we were good at, so this time I wanted to bring even more diversity into our music. It’s great to challenge ourselves instead of staying in a comfort zone, and I really wanted to experiment with Marc’s vocals. I think people are going to be surprised at his brutality! The title of the album explains pretty much what we are trying to do with our music. Today’s world is really crazy – there is fear of the future, uncertainty. But the power of music is infinite, and it can give strength and hope to people.”

Look out for Dragonforce tour dates. They are already playing at this year’s Chicago Open Air on July 15th at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL and that should tell us there will be more.
