Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
If you haven’t seen Bram Teitelman’s video of DEP frontman Greg Pucaito’s two story leap at a recent show, do that now. Then jump for joy yourself when you see that that the band has broken into the top 10 when their sixth and (allegedly) final album. They seem to be pretty adamant about the break up being legit but, like comic book character deaths, band’s do tend to get back together at one point or another. Regardless, if this ends up being the last time you see a DEP album featured on MBN, at least you’ll remember they went out with one of multiple bangs.
Notable Debuts:
The Dillinger Escape Plan, Dissociation (Party Smasher Inc.)
Debut #8
12,700 sold
If this truly is Dillinger’s final album, then they’ll be going out with their first top ten debut. This is the second-best sales week of the band’s (possibly over) career.
Red Fang, Only Ghosts (Relapse)
Debut #42
4,525 sold
The band’s fourth album debuts higher than its predecessor, though it sells it a bit less.
Disciple, Long Live The Rebels (BEC)
Debut #105
2,150 sold
The band’s eleventh album didn’t have quite as good of a debut as it’s 2014 predecessor.
Darkthrone, Arctic Thunder (Peaceville)
#161
1,425 sold
So this appeared on the charts last week, but these are the actual debut numbers.
MONO, Requiem For Hell (Temporary Residence)
870 sold
This is the Japanese band’s ninth album.
Deadships, The Darkness That Divides Us (Stay Sick)
840 sold
This is the debut release from this Chicago group.
Hardline, Human Nature (Frontiers)
630 sold
This is the band’s fifth album.
Anciients, Voice of the Void (Season of Mist)
600 sold
This is Anciients’ second album, but you probably knew that already given how much we’ve posted about it.
Wormrot, Voices (Earache)
310 sold
This is the band’s third album.
Notable Sales:
Alter Bridge, The Last Hero (Self-released)
#46 (from 4)
4,175 sold
This stays in the top 50 after a second week drop of 85%.
Meshuggah, The Violent Sleep of Reason (Nuclear Blast)
#51 (from 7)
3,800 sold
This still had a pretty good second week after a 79% drop.
Skillet, Unleashed (Atlantic)
#61 (from 59)
3,125 sold
This doesn’t take much of a hit from a 19% drop.
Dance Gavin Dance, Mothership (Rise)
#74 (from 6)
2,725 sold
An 86% drop in week two.
Disturbed, Immortalized (Reprise)
#81 (from 82)
2,625 sold
Just under the 500,000 mark.
Opeth, Sorceress (Nuclear Blast)
#108 (from 56)
2,075 sold
Some kind of sorcery made this drop 49%.
Five Finger Death Punch, Got Your Six (Prospect Park)
#116 (from 126)
2,000 sold
A small boost of 4%.
A Day To Remember, Bad Vibrations (ADTR)
#133 (from 103)
1,700 sold
A 27% drop with just under 90,000 sold.
Ghost, Popestar (Lorna Vista)
#148 (from 87)
1,600 sold
It won’t be too long before we see a new Ghost album on the charts.
The Devil Wears Prada, Transit Blues (Rise)
#157 (from 26)
1,500 sold
An 84% drop in week two.
Volbeat, Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie (Universal)
#178 (from 188)
1,225 sold
This sold the same amount as last week and has been on the charts for 20 weeks.
Led Zeppelin, Complete BBC Sessions (Rhino)
#199 (from 144)
1,150 sold
A 27% drop. Guess everyone still has their bootlegs from before 1997.
Epica, The Holographic Principle (Nuclear Blast)
500 sold
A 44% drop. It may pick up more sales on their upcoming tour.
Kyng, Breathe In The Water (Razor & Tie)
470 sold
A 63% drop is a royal payne.
Alcest, Kodama (Prophecy)
340 sold
A 30% drop. Fun fact: “kodama” is known as a tree spirit in Japanese folklore. Here is a adorable and slightly creepy depiction of them.
Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, Broken Lines (Cooking Vinyl)
330 sold
A 20% drop.
Candiria, While They Were Sleeping (Metal Blade)
320 sold
This dropped by 70% in week two.
Oathbreaker, Rheia (Deathwish)
320 sold
A 38% drop. Also, didn’t Mercyful Fate specifically tell you not to break the oath?
Gatecreeper, Sonoran Depravation (Relapse)
300 sold
A second week 67% drop.
Auras, Heliospectrum (eOne)
250 sold
This debuted a few weeks ago, so I’ve added it to MBN.
