It’s been three years since New Jersey’s Risk Relay released an album, but on November 18th, their fourth album, As We Descend, will be out on Nefarious Industries. The six track record is a concept album inspired by late 19th-century science fiction novel Etidorpha, which is about a man banished to an alternate world within the center of the earth. The album’s concept is also reflected in the album artwork by Jersey City artist and musician Bryan Elkins.

Today, we’re proud to bring you the premiere of “My Weight Disappearing.” Here’s what the band has to say about the song:

“My Weight Disappearing” is a reminder to the idle thinker that the droning process and the clawing mundane is driven out with a ghost of another kind. Led by his faceless guide through a fungus forest, a drunkard’s den and endless trenches of stalagmites, “The-Man-Who-Did-It” loses the weight of his conventional reasoning and witnesses the promise of future science.

As far as the song itself, it’s heavy, but also draws from Amphetamine Reptile-style noise rock and the New Brunswick basement show indie scene that the band emerged from. It’s a unique, yet familiar sound. To celebrate the release of the album, Risk Relay will be playing two NJ-area shows:

11/19/16 – Pino’s, Highland Park, NJ w/Black Wine, Secretary Legs
12/10/16 – The Hive, Jersey City, NJ (record release show) w/Twin God

As We Descend will be released on November 18th on Nefarious Industries. You can preorder the album on vinyl here.
