When Helmet emerged with their debut album, 1990’s Strap It On, they probably had no idea they’d be more or less popularizing an entire genre. Yet their subsequent signing to Interscope Records and blend of noise rock. precise hardcore and metal brought the Amphetamine Reptile sound (the label Strap It On was released on) to the alternative nation. Although the band took a several year hiatus in 1997, they returned in 2004, and haven’t gone away. It has been six years since their last album, Seeing Eye Dog, however. On October 28th, they’ll be releasing their eighth album, Dead to the World, via a just-announced deal with EAR Music.
It’s pretty apparent that the band are having a moment, as the release of the album comes just as Magnetic Eye is getting set to release Meantime: Redux, a tribute to 1992’s breakthrough album Meantime featuring the likes of KEN Mode, Kings Destroy and Meek is Murder. And as if that wasn’t enough to bring you back to the glory days of the ’90s, the band announced a tour with fellow metal/rock/alt-rockers Local H.
