Everyone, including members of the metal community, has been mourning the sudden passing of Prince. His music may never have been considered “heavy”, but the legendary artist obviously left a big impact on many, including Corey Taylor.
It just so happen that the Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman was playing a solo show in Minneapolis (Prince’s hometown) the night of the purple icon’s death. That’s why it made perfect sense for Taylor to open his set with an acoustic rendition of the title track from Prince’s classic album Purple Rain. Granted, this was not the first time Taylor busted out a Prince cover. However, given the circumstances, this was definitely his most emotional tribute to Prince.
Not only did fan filmed footage of the performance quickly make its way online, but Taylor actually live streamed his cover via Facebook. You can watch Taylor’s cover of “Purple Rain”, as well as previous live performances of “Little Red Corvette” and “Let’s Go Crazy”, below.
