Foo-FightersYesterday was Super Tuesday, but for Foo Fighters fans, today isn’t the super of a Foos day. While rumors from the New York Post’s Page Six that there was tension in the band were shot down by reps as “utterly ridiculous,” early today the band’s social media said that they’d be making an official announcement tonight. Artisan News decided to jump the gun, running an interview that Taylor Hawkins did in January stating that the band would be taking a hiatus, or as Hawkins stated, an “ihateus”:

“We’re on ihateus right now, we’re on an indefinite ihateus,” Hawkins explained. He added that the decision “was not because we don’t love each other, or don’t want to make music together … We did so much in the last five or six years — we as a band could go into the studio tomorrow and have just as much fun as we ever had, but I think the world needs a break from us for a little while.”

Hawkins has a point. Foo Fighters have been pretty much everywhere for the last 20 years. In addition to an endless stream of singles that are inescapable at radio, they’ve even had their own TV series, and a broken leg wasn’t even enough to stop him from touring. Hawkins stating that the world could do without the Foo Fighters for a while probably strikes a chord with everyone that’s tired of hearing “Best of You” on the radio or seeing Dave Grohl on every awards show that takes place. Granted, those two things are going to keep happening, but they’ll be happening without the band having anything to promote. Love them or hate them, they’re definitely a rock band at the top of their game though, and they’ve earned the right to take some time off. Hawkins, meanwhile is hawking Chevy Metal, his cover band, who will be playing around this Summer. Check the interview below.
