You’ve probably heard about Phil Anselmo’s questionable antics at this year’s Dimebash. Many people have given their two cents, including Machine Head’s Rob Flynn, the band’s former drummer and Pantera guitarist Dimebag’s girlfriend. Nearly every one in the metal community has an opinion. And though Anselmo has apologized, it’s a story that doesn’t seem like it’s going to be going away anytime soon.
The latest person to come forward is Scott Ian of Anthrax. It’s no real surprise – Ian’s Jewish. Earlier today, he released a statement on his Instagram and website, saying he has absolutely no tolerance for racism, and if Anselmo’s truly sorry, he’d donate to charity, more specifically, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a non-profit organization to fight anti-Semitism. While the comments are mixed between ‘well said’ and ‘money can’t buy remorse’- it’s a noble idea.
It’s also worth noting that if Ian is as anti-racism as he claims, maybe he should take issue with the guitar that Dimebag gave him that featured a Star of David on a Confederate Flag. Just sayin.’ His statement is below:
