One of the funniest bits on Patton Oswalt’s debut album is “My Christmas Memory,” where Oswalt talks about slowing down his Alvin & the Chipmunks record as a kid so Dave sounds like a demon from hell. Seriously, try to get through that without laughing. At any rate, the internet is an amazing place, and someone (namely Toronto electronic musician Brian Borcherdt), has slowed the sped-up vocals of the ’80s-era version of the Chipmunks to 16rpm for his Chipmunkson16speed project. The result is normal-to-crappy sounding vocals with some of the doomiest instrumentation you’ve ever heard of songs like “Walk Like an Egyptian” and “My Sharona.” We recommend “Call Me” and “You Keep Me Hanging On” for maximum doom.
