Until recently, if you wanted to hear what 100 guitars sounded like playing together, you’d have to listen to a Queen album or something.  However, last Friday (14), Children of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho along with a core backing band of impressive Finns, recruited 100 guitarists to play a new song with him in Helsinki’s Senate Square. Dubbed “100 Guitars from HEL” (because, Helsinki), it went down pretty impressively. You can certainly hear lots of guitars, even if all of the non-mainstage axemen blend into the background. Unfortunately, the 100 guitarists weren’t introduced or anything, making them pretty much anonymous. But as one attendee said in the YouTube comments, “the wall of sound was soul healing.”

Here’s who else played alongside Laiho:

  • Kie Von Hertzen (Von Hertzen Brothers, Don Huonot) – Guitar
  • Archie Cruz (Santa Cruz) – Guitar
  • Samy Elbanna (Lost Society) – Guitar
  • Timo Kämäräinen (Toot Toot) – Guitar
  • Tommy Armstrong-Leavitt – Guitar
  • Jyri Helko (For the Imperium) – Bass
  • Janne Wirman (Children of Bodom) – Keyboards
  • Jaska Raatikainen (Children of Bodom) – Drums
