In a two-part series we break down all the bands playing this weekend’s Metal Insider sponsored Death To False Metal Festival in Hamden, CT, so you know ahead of time what awesomeness are getting yourself into.  First up, a look at Friday night’s line-up (please note there are some extremely NSFW videos linked below):

Bedroom Rehab Corporation (8:30 – 9:00 pm – Outer Space Stage)

Opening up the Fest is Connecticut’s two-person doom/sludge wrecking crew, Bedroom Rehab Corporation. Their 2013 album, Red Over Red, was an absolute barn burner and their new album, due out this Autumn, promises to be even better (if the video for the first single posted below is any indication).

Nightbitch (9:00 – 9:45 pm – Ballroom Stage)

Nightbitch are Connecticut’s answer to the question what do you get when you cross Deep Purple’s heaviest material with the first three Danzig records? To say they are a throwback is a bit of a misnomer, but there are few bands who worship the ways of our metal forefathers the way these guys do. Check out the NSFW video of the track “Caged Heat” from their most recent EP.

Valkyrie (10:15 – 11:00 pm – Ballroom Stage)

After a long hiatus, brothers Jake and Pete Adams (Baroness) have resurrected one of the best stoner rock bands in all the land. Virginia’s Valkyrie are built on shredding guitars and a thundering rhythm section that hearkens back to the days when proto-metal champions ruled the underground airwaves. Valkyrie’s appearance at DTFM will be their only show outside of their native VA this weekend so their set is not to be missed! Listen to the track “Mountain Stomp” below of their amazing new album, Shadows.

Vengeance (11:00 – 11:30 pm – Outer Space Stage)

Two-time winner of Best Metal act at the Connecticut Music Awards, Vengeance pull no punches when it comes to their sound. They worship at the altar of Traditional Metal, and especially the NWOBHM scene.  Check out some live footage from when they opened for an all-star tribute to Randy Rhodes last summer.

Whiplash (11:30 pm – 12:30 am – Ballroom Stage)

Easily one of the most influential East Coast thrash bands of all-time, New Jersey’s Whiplash headlines the first nigh of DTFM. Their landmark debut album, Power and Pain, celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year, which means this band has spent the last 30 years influencing hundreds of thrash bands to play it faster and louder than everyone else.
