Earlier this week, the news about the incident taking place after the This Is Hardcore Festival involving Crosscheck’s drummer, Tom Alderson being severely injured and hospitalized, began to spread. The beating, allegedly administered by Ian Adams of Heavy Chains and Suburban Scum vocalist Ryan “Karebear” Taylor, has caused a huge backlash towards the accused bands, who were forced to drop off several scheduled shows. It’s gone beyond just the three bands involved, with Weekend Nachos cancelling their appearance at a festival where one of the presumed perpetrators was involved.

Suburban Scum finally released a statement regarding the whole incident, stating the following:

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Tom Alderson, his family, and his friends at this time. Although it is clear that little can change the trauma this situation has caused Tom, the people close to him, and the community at large, we would like to extend our support to Tom and his recovery. We do not condone senseless violence in our community. We are all a part of this scene because we feel passionate about this music and this culture. It is a place for people who don’t fit in to feel at home and it deeply saddens us that this situation has possibly changed that for some people.

The bottom line is this should not have happened. We can only hope that people who know Suburban Scum as a whole, know the people we are and that we are not the people we have been painted out to be in this situation.

It’s difficult not to notice how the statement isn’t signed by Karebear and there is no mention regarding his current status in the band, although he did make a short speech about the situation in the video below, denying any involvement in the altercation. Heavy Chains hasn’t made a public statement about the situation but is just a matter of time, which they have after being dropped from the Life & Death Tour with Bane, Turnstile and Backtrack.
