Corrosion of Conformity have been on a roll since reforming the Anomisity-era lineup in 2010. However, it was last year when Down’s Pepper Keenan rejoined the band that things really started taking off. The guitarist and singer, who joined the band in 1989, but took over on vocals for 1994’s’s southern rock-influenced Deliverance, had never quit the band, but hadn’t been playing with them. Since then, the band have signed with Nuclear Blast and are currently on the road with Lamb of God and Clutch. When in Oakland, the band was joined by Metallica’s James Hetfield to perform Deliverance‘s “Seven Days.”
It’s not a complete surprise, given that Metallica invited C.O.C. to open for them in the mid-90s, and Hetfield appeared on “Man or Ash” singing backup vocals, which was on 1996’s Wiseblood. Keenan also appeared on Metallica’s Garage Inc. for their cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Tuesday’s Gone.” Regardless, it’s great to see Hetfield show up and jam with his friends. Maybe when both bands finally complete their albums, they can tour together again.
