A few months back, we sat down with Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal to discuss what was he up to and got a scope of what was going on with his band Art of Anarchy and his solo career but there was hardly any mention about Guns N’ Roses, even though the band have been working on their follow-up release to their 2008’s Chinese Democracy.
After various hints and breadcrumbs left by Thal in the past few months, everybody basically figured that he was not focused on GN’R as much as he’s own solo career, even regretting the time and effort he dedicated to the band instead of his own projects. The speculations are over as one of the Guns’ sources revealed to Wmmr that indeed, Bumblefoot was out of the band for good:
Bumblefoot quit last year. I don’t understand why he continues to be evasive on his status with the band — he quit in South America. He told Axl he was done and (Las) Vegas would be his last run with the band.
Not shocking news for many who have followed Bumblefoot’s moves but a good closure to all the rumors and vague comments hinting to the split. This became relevant after the departure of DJ Ashba from the GN’R’s ranks earlier this week, leaving Richard Fortus as the only guitarist left in the band.
We may have to wait a little longer to get that new album as there’s quite some shoes to fill in before doing so but being who they are, I doubt that will take long to happen, and who knows, maybe we can even get to see a classic Guns N’ Roses reunion with Slash as he admitted he would totally be up for it.
