It’s only been about two months since the members of As I Lay Dying that aren’t currently in jail decided to rise from the ashes of said band, along with Oh, Sleeper vocalist Shane Blay to form Wovenwar. With their self-titled debut due out on Metal Blade in August, the band have already given a hint of what the album will sound like via the song “All Rise” (think AILD, but with more melodic vocals). Now, via their merch store, the new act have released a second song, “The Mason.” Musically, it’s riffy and heavy, yet Blay’s vocals are far more melodic than Tim Lambesis’ were. It’ll be interesting to see how longtime As I Lay Dying fans react to the song (and the band, for that matter). This could almost fit on active rock radio, and it’s essentially an entirely different  band due to the vocals. We’re liking what we’ve heard so far, since musically, it doesn’t deviate all that far from what the band’s ever done, but could bring them to an entirely new audience.
