Opeth have been in the news a lot this week. They premiered the cover artwork for their new album Heritage, and some of the tour dates for Opeth’s Fall tour with Katatonia were leaked yesterday. Well now it looks like the Fall tour isn’t the only juicy Opeth news to have gotten leaked.
According to a Facebook posting from the French edition of Rock Hard Magazine, the band has been rehearsing with keyboardist Joakim Svalberg (Yngwie Malmsteen, Glenn Hughes). However, Svalberg is reportedly not a permanent member of the group…yet. The magazine’s posting includes a picture of Svalberg in the studio with Opeth during the new album’s mixing sessions (which can be seen above).
When keyboardist Per Wiberg departed from Opeth back in April, though he still is featured on the album, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt confirmed that they were already rehearsing with a new keyboardist. Whether Svalberg is indeed Wiberg’s permanent replacement or just brought in to perform on Opeth’s upcoming shows is still unclear. We’ll keep you posted when more is confirmed. In the mean time, you can check our original posting about Opeth’s Fall tour with Katatonia to see new dates recently added.
