antemasque

Fans of The Mars Volta, saddened by the band’s break up in 2013, have likely been hoping that a reunion would happen somewhere down the road. However, this new project dubbed Antemasque might be the next best thing. The band features Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala as well as Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea’s association with The Mars Volta goes all the way back to their debut album De-Loused in the Comatoriumi on which he played bass. Also part of the band is former The Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch, who is also currently involved with the supergroup Killer Be Killed.

The band has started up the official Facebook page which various videos of the band in the studio posted as well as a single titled “4AM” that is posted to iTunes. Said single has of course found its way to Youtube, so you can check that out as well as a video from the studio below. Is it a full on reunion? No, but fans will enjoy this more than nothing at all.

Flea downplayed his part in the new project via Twitter, saying “Woke to find I’m in a new Supergroup. Hahahaha. Played on some tracks a few weeks ago with my friends Omare and Decric for love that all.”
