Breaking news: Long Island death metal band Suffocation just announced that they are working on new material. The announcement appeared on their Facebook and their Twitter feed early October 10th but did not offer fans much. It features a picture of guitarist Terrance Hobbs holding up a Suffocation sign with a vague post stating “we maybe not be playing a show for a short time but… WE ARE NOT ASLEEP!” It is unclear if this means a new album or a new EP so we will have to see what developments unfold in the upcoming months.
Suffocation released their last album, Pinnacle of Bedlam back in 2013, and Frank Mullen said he was going to cut back on touring. However, they did a short tour last year that included the Housecore Horror Film Fest and this announcement will hopefully lead to some kind of follow up as to what they’re doing. The only show they have booked right now is the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise next year. The band’s current lineup includes two new members, drummer Eric Morotti and rhythm guitarist Charlie Errigo.
