It’s been 28 years since Van Halen made an album with David Lee Roth. Today, we finally get to hear the first single from A Different Kind of Truth, and “Tattoo” is, well, a decidedly low key way to lead off the album. It sounds a bit like a Sammy Hagar-era song with Dave  singing. If you were to compare it to the Dave-era Van Halen, with it’s synth bed and mid-tempo groove, it reminiscent of something from 1984, perhaps a bit like “Drop Dead Legs.” Dave sounds great on it, as does Eddie. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s good to have the band back. What do you think?
