Forming in 2000, The Ocean collective have been around for a while now (longer than Frank, not as long as Billy). Since releasing their last two albums, Heliocentric and Anthropocentric, in 2010, the band have laid somewhat low. Now they’re back with the first track from Pelagial, their next album that will be out on April 30. For the new one, they’re taking their name literally, and the album title even more literally. It’s a concept album about coincides with the five pelagic depth zones of the ocean: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In other words, the farther from the ‘surface’ of the ocean, the darker and heavier it gets. “Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish In Dreams” is towards the beginning of the album, so it’s not as heavy as the stuff on the latter part, it’s still pretty good, heavy and progressive. Check it out now. Pelagial will be released on April 30 on Metal Blade.
