To say that Germany’s Rock am Ring festival went off without a hitch this past weekend would be a lie. In fact, 33 people were injured after two lightning strikes at the festival. Both took place in the early morning hours on Saturday momrning, in Mendig, western Germany. The first strike happened in the backstage area at about 1am, injuring eight production staff. Lightning-proof tents were opened for the campers after that, but a second hit at around 4am injured 25 in one of the campsites. Apparently none of the injuries were that serious, and given that there were 90,000 in attendance, it seems like the festival dodged a bullet.
In other festival news, Parkway Drive did a pretty spot-on cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls on Parade.” If a deathcore band can cover Pantera, then a metalcore band sure as hell can cover some Rage.
