Slipknot to start “major work” on album next month

slipknotblackSee that screen shot to the right of this sentence? That’s an exclusive picture of Slipknot’s website. How blacker can it be? None more black. What’s it all mean? Well, the site might be dark to represent that the band is getting ready to enter the studio. In an interview with Kerrang! (as transcribed by NME) frontman Corey Taylor spoke about the album, stating that they’re going to be hitting the studio and have 17 demos already.

I can say that, to me – and this is only my opinion – it’s a cross between ‘Iowa’ and ‘Volume 3…’, but that’s honestly just scratching the surface,” says Taylor. “I think the fans are going to be very, very excited when they hear this stuff.”

Taylor goes on to say: “I’ve written lyrics for everything that we have right now and it’s feeling pretty good. It feels like the story of the band so far, which is a totally different take on what I’ve been used to writing with Slipknot, but I think because of everything we’ve been through, it’s time to tell that story. It’s going to be everything you want in a Slipknot album, and everything you wouldn’t expect.

The band still haven’t made any announcements about who will be playing drums. Joey Jordison left the band/was fired from the band in December. The fact that they’ll be in the studio maybe as soon as tomorrow suggests that they’ve probably got someone to at least play on the album. What’s Mike Portnoy up to these days? If they have a drummer, they’re not saying yet. And don’t look to their website for any answers.
